Column management

How to resize columns in Smartsheet.

Resizing columns makes long text readable and keeps your layout consistent — column width is a display setting, so no data or formulas change when you adjust it.

How to resize columns in Smartsheet

  1. Hover over the divider on the right edge of the column header until the cursor changes to a resize arrow.
  2. Click and drag the divider left or right to make the column narrower or wider.
  3. Release the mouse button when the column reaches the width you want.
  4. Repeat for each column — Smartsheet resizes one column at a time by dragging.
  5. Save the sheet to keep the new column widths.

Set exact column widths in one step.

Grid Tools for Smartsheet adds a numeric width control, so you can type a precise pixel width and apply it across the selected columns instead of resizing them one at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I resize more than one column at a time in Smartsheet?

No. Smartsheet only supports resizing one column at a time by dragging its header border. Grid Tools adds a numeric width control and multi-column resize.

Does resizing a column change my data?

No. Column width is a display setting only. Resizing does not change any cell values, formulas, or column types.

Can I set an exact column width in pixels?

Not natively — Smartsheet uses drag-only resizing with no numeric input. Grid Tools lets you type a precise width value.

Can I resize multiple columns to the same width?

Yes. Select the columns, enter a pixel width from 20 to 4000, and apply the same width in one action.
